Inaugural Peewee Major Team captures Three Rivers Championship!

The Northern Vermont Wildcats went to the Steel City, Pittsburgh, PA, on a mission to start their season off on the right foot. The Peewee Major and Midget U16 teams successfully completed their missions.

On Friday night, the Peewee Major team played like they have been playing all year together. They defeated a surprised Parma Flyers team in a dominating fashion.

Saturday morning featured complete domination by both teams. The Peewees ran away with a 10-1 win over the Richmond Hills Stars. Saturday afternoon at the Pittsburgh Penguins practice facility, the Peewees ran into a great game with the home town Pittsburgh Predators. Although the refs weren't on the Wildcats side, the Peewees prevailed with a great team win. Final score: 5-2.

Sunday morning, the Peewees played their last preliminary game of the tournament. They won 6-1 over the Roman Jr. Cahillites. Both Wildcat teams advanced to their respective Championship Games as the impressive #1 seeds.

The #1 seeded Peewee Majors took on the #2 seeded Pittsburgh Predators in the final game of the tournament. The Peewees were in a battle for the 1st - 2 periods. They killed multiple 5-on-3s, but were able to capitalize on the Power Play late in the 1st period. With a 1-0 lead heading into the 2nd period, Coach Henri kept stressing good defensive play. The 'Cats stuck to the game plan and were able to capitalize on a few Predators mistakes. With the final horn sounding, the Peewees took home a nice 5-0 win over the Predators of Pittsburgh. Tournament MVP was Chad Schneider.

Congratulations to both teams' coaches and players on going a combined 9-0-0 in the tournament and capturing both Tournament Championship titles! What a way to kick off our 2014 season! Up next, the Midget Majors and Midget U17s ship off to Marlboro, MA to compete in the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions: April 17-19th. Good luck Midget Majors and Midget U17s!!
