Mite Elite go 4-0-0 to win New Years Tournament in Massachusetts

The Northern Vermont Wildcats newly formed Mite Elite team impressed everyone who attended the Jingle Bell Skate Tournament in Marlboro, MA: New Years Eve and New Years Day. The team went 4-0-0 throughout the tournament and won the Tournament Championship in the top Mite Division, with many players who had NEVER played full ice hockey before!

The team was faced with a battle, in Game #1 against the Central Connecticut Capitals. Phoenix Wells shut the door as he recorded 16 saves on 17 shots, including a few breakaway saves! The 'Cats pulled out an impressive 3-1 victory over a full ice Mite team!

Game #2 that afternoon had a lot of scoring for one team. 12 different players recorded at least one point as the 'Cats cruised to an 11-1 victory over the Jr. Crusaders from Worcester, MA. Ethan Fortin recorded his first win as a Wildcat in net.

Game #3 Thursday morning started shaky, but the 'Cats stuck to playing #WildcatHockey and prevailed to a 8-2 win over the Triboro (MA) Titans. Tommy Bleyl led the way with 5 goals in the contest and Ethan Fortin recorded 9 saves for another win in the net.

The 'Cats earned the #1 seed heading into the Championship Game, and faced off against a familiar foe, the #2 seeded Central Connecticut Capitals. The Capitals caught the 'Cats off guard, as they went up quickly in the game. The first period ended with a 3-2 lead for the Capitals. Great plays, passing, determination, and timely scored goals lifted the 'Cats to a 6-3 victory after two periods. The 'Cats played smart hockey and finished the game with a 6-3 victory to be crowned Champions of the 2015-16 Jingle Bell Skate Tournament!

Congratulations to Coaches Henri Langevin, Tom Bleyl, Brent Carpenter, and General Manager Anthony Langevin and all players on a great tournament! Excellent start to the 2016 Wildcat season!

The season will continue March 11-13th as the Squirt Elite team heads to North Adams, MA to compete in the NBYHL Spring Fling Tournament! The Wildcat Season is here!!
