The 2000 Premier team was one of 8 teams to advance to the Playoff Round of the Hub Cup U16 Showcase in Bridgewater, MA, hosted by Hub City Hockey, this past weekend. 18 very strong U16 teams from all over the Northeastern United States competed in the showcase in hopes to be crowned the champion.
For the first time in program history, the NVW program advanced to the Playoff Round at the Hub Cup. The 2000 Premiers battled hard and won all 3 of their preliminary games: 3-0 over the Boston Knights' top team, 3-0 over the Valley Jr. Warriors, andm1-0 over the highly talented East Coast Militia squad. The team was led by great goaltending from Joe Citera (Kimball Union Academy).
The 'Cats snagged the #4 seed after going 3-0-0 and faced off against the #5 seeded and 2-0-1 (Lovell) Tropics. A back and forth battle throughout the entire game finished with the Tropics scoring with 42 seconds and 5 seconds left, to defeat the 2000 Premiers: 3-1 in a great hockey game. The Tropics then went on to easily win their Semi-Final game and lost to the eventual champion, 3-2.
Congratulations to the 2000 Premiers, as well as General Manager Anthony Langevin on a great weekend of Wildcat hockey at the Hub Cup U16 Showcase! Only 8 out of 18 very competitive programs advanced to the Playoff Round on Sunday and the entire NVW program is proud of the accomplishments of the team! The program keeps looking to get better year after year, to hopefully capture the prestigious championship title sometime soon. Making the Playoff Round on Sunday is a huge step in the right direction! Well done!
The Junior A team, now, ships off to the Hub Cup U18 Showcase next weekend in Bridgewater, MA! Good luck to coaches Henri Langevin, Bob LePage, and General Manager Anthony Langevin as the team looks to keep the success at the Hub Cup Showcases going!
