Midget U16s continue Winning Tradition in Pittsburgh The Northern Vermont Wildcats went to the Steel City, Pittsburgh, PA, on a mission to start their season off on the right foot. The Peewee Major and Midget U16 teams successfully completed their missions.
On Friday night, the U16s played a great team game in a 4-2 win over the defensive minded West Seneca Wings.
Saturday morning featured complete domination by the U16s. The U16s won 7-1 over the South Hills Panthers. Saturday night featured the U16s facing off against the Buffalo Regals. Both teams were already guaranteed a spot in the Championship Game, but Coach Stores stressed that setting the tone was necessary in this game. The U16s did just that, as they ran away with a 5-0 win.
The #1 seeded Midget U16s took on the #2 seeded Buffalo Regals, in the Championship Game. From start to finish, the U16s completely dominated the game and the Regals had a tough time even getting the puck out of their zone. The U16s were on a mission of capturing their 1st tournament together, and they did just that. Final score: U16s - 9, Regals - 0. Leading goal scorer in the tournament, Christian Thomas, was named Tournament MVP.
Congratulations to both the Peewee Major and Midget U16 coaches and players on going a combined 9-0-0 in the tournament and capturing both Tournament Championship titles! What a way to kick off our 2014 season! Up next, the Midget Majors and Midget U17s ship off to Marlboro, MA to compete in the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions: April 17-19th.
