U16s improve to 9-0-0 on the year and capture 2nd straight title! The Wildcat Midget U16 team was nothing less than an incredibly talented and special team. With players from all over the Northeast, the team clicked from Game 1.
Friday afternoon, the U16s ran into a very good Black Ice goaltender. Although they outshot the Black Ice 56-7, they would only take a 4-0 win. Friday night, against the rival New York Selects, was a statement game. The 'Cats won 6-2 by capitalizing on key opportunities and playing great defense. Saturday morning the offense exploded for an 11-2 win and outshot the Glen Rock (NJ) Panthers: 66-10. Finally in the last preliminary game vs. a chippy Team Buffalo team, the 'Cats ran into a good team, but prevailed to a 4-1 win.
The U16s advanced to the Gold Championship game as the #1 seed and faced a familiar foe, Team Buffalo. From start to finish, the 'Cats dominated in Team Buffalo's zone, but was only up 3-2 with 10 minutes left. Finally, a "Thunder" spark helped the 'Cats score three unanswered goals en route to a 6-2 Championship win! Congrats to newly appointed coaches Trevor Simonson and Ryan Chauvin on capturing their 1st tournament win, as well as the entire coaching staff and players! Another great weekend, U16s!
Up next, the Midget U17s and Bantam Majors travel to Plattsburgh for the North Country Showcase this weekend! Best of luck, Wildcats!
