Photo Courtesy of Northern Cyclones Hockey Website After being one of the top contributors for the National Sports Academy (NSA) Boys Varisty Ice Hockey Team in Lake Placid, NY as only a Freshman, Christian Thomas (1999) decided to make the move to play for the Northern Cyclones U16 AAA Hockey team in New Hampshire for the 2014/15 winter hockey season. Thomas (R, 5-9/150) has stood out as a future NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Player.
"Thomas stood out at the USHL Atlantic Showcase where he played with the Cyclones U18 team. Here, he continued to prove why he is a D-1 prospect. He always has the puck on his stick, makes great dekes in open ice where he isolates the defensemen and uses his quickness to create separation. A balanced skater with an explosive first step. He didn't get many shots off in the games we saw, but he has a strong release." (Article quoted from USHR website, regarding Boston Junior Bruins Shootout in September).
In the beginning of December, Thomas was named "Player of the Week" for the entire Cyclones Organization. The Northern Cyclones had the following to say about Thomas, "This week's Cyclone Player Spotlight is Christian Thomas, Christian is a 1999-Born forward who is on the Cyclones 16U team. Christian is in his first season with the Northern Cyclones after coming from National Sports Academy in Lake Placid, NY. Christian went to NSA for his freshmen year and decided to come play for the Cyclones 16U Full Season Team this year. The Bloomingdale, NY native currently billets with a teammate and goes to a local high school. Christian has had an impact from the first day he has walked into Cyclones Arena. Christian is a leader on and off the ice and is currently leading the 16U team in goals, assists, and points. His stat line is currently 36-28-64 in 40 games this season. Christian is already attracting college interest and if the Cyclones are going to get back to the league semi-finals and win the 16U EJEPL Championship, they will need Thomas to be at his best. We wish Christian the best of luck the rest of this year and look forward to having him be a Wildcat, once again, this Spring and Summer season!!
