Mite Majors win 2015 Pepsi Tournament of Champions! The Northern Vermont Wildcats Mite Major team won the 2015 Pepsi Tournament of Champions, in the Mite Tier I Division, this past weekend in Marlboro, MA.
On Friday night, the Mite Majors defeated a relentless Milford Blues team by a score of 6-1. Saturday morning was a different story. A very skilled Westchester team handed the Mite Majors their 1st loss of their season, defeating them 4-1. James Chagnon and Phoenix Wells kept the team in the game, but it wasn't enough to defeat the Sting. The 'Cats showed up ready to play and defeated the CT Werewolves: 8-2, in game 3.
Sunday morning featured the best game of the weekend for the team. The #2 seeded Mite Majors faced the #1 seeded, undefeated, and 3-time Champion: Westchester Sting. The Sting went up 1-0 after the 1st period, but the 'Cats blocked over 12 shots in the game and played a great defensive minded game. The 'Cats took advantage of mistakes made by the Sting and capitalized on key goals. The score was Wildcats - 2, Sting - 2, after 2. The 'Cats scored early in the 3rd, but the Sting answered very quickly. This one would lead into overtime! With less than 2 minutes into overtime, the 'Cats buried the game winner off a great shot to leave a huge rebound. The kids and coaches went crazy as the Mite Majors upset the Sting!
Great weekend for the Mite Major players and coaches! Congrats on your Tournament Championship! See you next weekend in Montreal!!
