2006 Premier went undefeated throughout the weekend and defeated the Tropics in the Championship Game The Northern Vermont Wildcats sent their 2004 Premier, 2005 Premier, and 2006 Premier teams to the North American Summer AAA Championships Tournament in Marlboro, MA this past weekend. All teams had a few new recruits on them, as well as veteran players. All three teams looked to end their respective seasons on a strong note, and they did just that!
The 2006 Premier team had finished 2nd at their last 3 tournaments during the spring time and just fell short in all the championship games they participated in. They wouldn't take 2nd place at their own season finale this past weekend.
In Game 1 against the CT Mongoose, the team cruised to a 14-0 win as EVERY player recorded at least a point in the first game. Game 2 was a different story against a pesky South Shore Conquistadors 06 AAA team. The 'Cats battled hard, though, as they took a 5-2 win. Game 3 featured the 'Cats and the Maine Blizzard 06 AAA team. A win would secure a Championship Game spot for the team and the 'Cats prevailed with another 5-2 win. In the last preliminary game of the tournament, the 'Cats struck early and it was enough to muscle their way through the Lovell Tropics 06 AAA team: 4-2, who also won the Mini Hub Cup 06 Showcase back in July!
The Championship Game would be, once again, between the 'Cats and Lovell Tropics. A determined 'Cats team never quit from the puck drop and battled for a full 45 minutes of hockey. Result: The 06 team pulled away with a 5-1 win over the prior Mini Hub Cup 06 Showcase Champions, for their first tournament championship of the season! Congrats to coaches Henri Langevin, Tom Jacques, and Tom Bleyl on a great weekend! Hats off to the players for not only a great weekend of hockey, but a season to remember, as well!
Congrats to the 04, 05 and 06 Premier teams on an excellent season! It was a season to remember and we CAN'T WAIT to keep it going into next spring!
